About Mera Peak Climbing

Mera Peak (6,476 m) is the highest trekking peak in the Himalayas of Nepal. Mera Peak Climbing is an outstanding venture that explores the wilderness of alpine forests, the rich culture of Sherpa people, the warm hospitality of the locals, and the adventurous trodden trails. Trekking through remote mountain villages and dense forests of rhododendron (national flower), you will cross many suspension bridges and traverse beautiful valleys.

Mera Peak is graded as alpine PD. The route to the summit is straightforward and demands strong physical fitness. Mera Peak Climbing is a great option for challenge lovers who want to take their climbing game to the next level. Before pushing towards the summit, our experienced Sherpa guides will give you small training as well to boost your confidence. You will learn to properly use gears and other climbing skills.

Itinerary

Complete custom formalities, after landing at the airport and meet with our team members. They will welcome you and take you to the hotel. Enjoy the evening exploring around Thamel and meet with the rest of the team members over a delicious welcome dinner.

Today, the day begins with a pleasant guided tour of UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhnath Stupa, Swayambhunath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Later in the day, meet with the trek leader over a small briefing and prepare for the trek.

We’ll drive from Kathmandu to Phaplu early in the morning instead of flying to Lukla. The drive will be long but scenic. You get to enjoy diverse landscapes and mountain views during the drive.

Today, we'll continue the drive to Khari Khola. From here, you walk through lush rhododendron and bamboo forest on a narrow trail. On the way, you can see fantastic views of Dudhkoshi Valley and reach Panggom village.

Have a warm breakfast and ascend towards Panggom La Pass. Crossing the pass, you will walk in the north direction towards Peseng Kharka Khola. Cross the Khola and climb to Peseng Kharka Danda. The trail then crosses Ningsow Khola and reaches Ningsow village. After a few ascents and descents, you will reach Ramailo Danda.

The trail soon enters Makalu Barun National Park and continues towards Chhatra Khola, following the Pasang Lhamu trail. You might get to see a red panda along the way if you are lucky.

The trail moves north towards Mera Peak. Passing by the Majang Khola, you will join another trail that goes alongside Hinku Khola. You will pass by Tashing Ongma, which has seasonal tea shops, and cross a bridge over Sanu Khola before reaching Kothe.

The trail moves along the ridge of Hinku Khola. Take a small break for lunch at Gondishung. It is a summer herders' settlement area on the west bank of Hinku Drangka. The trail further passes by a 200 years old Lungsumgba Gompa. A short walk from here takes you to Thagnak for a night's stay.

The trail follows the lateral moraine of Dig Glacier to Dig Kharka. On the way, you can see fabulous views of Charpate Himal. The trail ascends through moraines to the snout of the Hinku Nup and Shar glaciers. You will further ascend on a steep path to Khare and trek towards Khare.

Today is an acclimatization day. You will spend the day resting and preparing for the climb. The team leader will give you basic mountaineering training and teach you to properly use crampons, harnesses, ice-axe, & climbing boots. You will have a small briefing about the route and learn the rope technique.

Walking along a boulder-strewn path, the trail steeply ascends towards the Mera Peak Base Camp. Continue ascending to Mera La Pass and continue moving towards Mera High Camp. The trail is rocky, and there will be many crevasses. Make your way to the top of the rock band, which is marked by a large cairn, enjoying spectacular views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho Oyu, and many others.

Today, wake up at dawn, around 2 am, and get ready to reach the top of Mera Peak. Follow the team leader and gradually move up the glacier, then to a peculiar ridge. It is going to be cold and windy. The route is non-technical, but thin air makes the climb exhausting. Reach the top and spend some time before descending back to Khare.

It is always good to have an extra day on hand while climbing. Sometimes unfavorable weather may ruin our plan to summit. Therefore, a contingency day will come in handy. If we summit Mera Peak as per the planned itinerary, then you will have an additional day to spend in Kathmandu.

The trail from Khare to Kothe descends, following the same path. You will get to see beautiful mountain views along the way. The trail ascends and descends, crossing numerous tributaries of Inkhu Khola. You will reach Taktho and continue trekking on the right side, passing by a chorten. Further, follow a downhill steep route and then ascend to Thuli Kharka.

Today, you will be crossing Zatrwa La Pass (4,600 m). The top of the pass offers gorgeous views of the snow-capped Himalayan mountains. From the pass, drop down to Chutang and walk through the lush forest to Lukla.

Take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. The flight offers wonderful aerial views of the Himalayan mountains. Upon reaching Kathmandu, head to the hotel and spend the day as per your wish. Visit nearby tourist sites and do window shopping. In the late evening, meet with the team members over farewell dinner.

This adventurous climbing venture in the Himalayas comes to an end. Today, you will fly back to your home, and our airport representative will drop you at the airport terminal gate as per the flight schedule.
